I’m back!

And the now I need to get some things ready. Quite a lot of things.

When I was in Thailand I bought a sim card. And when I left Thailand I put the Thai Sim card into the little cardboard pack my Australian Sim card was in. When I packed my stuff in Germany I of course didn’t neither take the Thai Sim Card box nor did I check if my Crazy Johns Pack (Aussi Mobile Provider) contains the right sim card. I only noticed during the flight.

So NOW I need a new sim card while keeping my old number. Sounds quite like a challenge. Ok so let’s get this ready today, let’s get a busking amp, a mic stand and a busking license.

But first... let’s see what is on in Newtown!

It takes me about 15 minutes of a walk till I reach King St. Arriving there I go to Dolce Gelato to see my friends Paul and Fotini who both work in that shop. Paul serves me a nice Ice Cream (a N-Ice-Cream) on the house. Thanks Paul!

I walk further down the road to see if the muso shop down there has all I need. They have a mic stand and a mic clip. But I’m not ready yet to buy there.

So I walk further down to Doy Thai. My favourite Thai Restaurant. That is where I have been eating in about 50 times. I order some nice tofu with chilli, basil and rice for only $8. So good!

Doy Thai is right at the corner to Holmwood Street. That is where I used to live for about 9 Months. I decide to see what is still there. The remote doorbell I bought last year is already broken, so I knock on the door. A long haired guy with a gothic-look opens up. He is pretty nice – almost looks like bligh with black hair – and he asks me in. I’m shocked being faced with such a change in the house. It is not that bad as I imagined but it is did not change to a clean house so far :P .

Beside Hemmingway and Trotzky there is another dog. I don’t know what kind of dof it is but is is always trying to chew on my fingers ;) .

I try to find some of my old stuff I could still use. The printer, or some clothes I couldn’t take with me, or the dust mite protector I was so happy to receive last year, or the cheques Bligh is still “Keeping” for me...

But NOTHING! Only after entering the laundry room I discover my dust mite protector. This thing is important to me so I take it with me say goodbye to the guy who now lives with Bligh (forgot his name) and then leave the house. This might have been my last time entering it.

Then I get a bus ticket to head to the City. I get of on George Street and thank the bus driver for having taken me there – like everyone else does. It is a great place to live where bus driver’s jobs are being appreciated by the public. Try the difference: Next time you leave the bus thank the bus driver! Believe me, this DOES change a lot!

Arriving in the phone shop on George Street to request a new sim card with my old number they tell me that they can’t do anything for me today! They encounter technical problems in their processing centre themselves. So the shop assistant asks me to come back tomorrow... all right.

Well that is not what I expected :-/ . But I’m still in a great mood and I’m driven to see what else Sydney has to offer me.

I walk till I reach Allain’s Music. That’s the biggest music shops in Sydney. My friend Paul works there. Paul is about 50 years old, was singer and guitarist in a heavy metal band, has hair down to his kidneys, hes is vegan and he enjoys coming to Basil on the Weekend to be served my special cappuccino. He is a great guy! His eyes are widely open when he recognises me in the shop. Buying the Roland Cube Street and a microphone stand he takes a big percentage off the price!

With both I move to the next bus stop where I wait for the 555 bus. The 555 bus is a free bus service which is provided by the city of Sydney. Great! I wait about 30min until a bus comes by. But then I’m happy to get on. I’m getting of at town hall where I then get my busking license. The official guy who processes my request is really friendly and it feels so good again to be back here being surrounded by happy and friendly people.

With my new license and my amp I head forward to the bus stop where I leave off to Newtown. With the stuff on my shoulders (about 12kg) I finally reach Andy’s home. Problem: Andy himself is not at home to open the door. So I go to the Pub opposite Andy’s house to asks for the next pay phone (mine is obviously not working...). They offer me to leave all my stuff at the Pub and so I do. Arriving at the pay phone another problem occurs: It does take coins... but the coin slit doesn’t work. So I call the operator for this pay phone to tell them it was not working. They tell me they already know about the problem... mh GREAT! That doesn’t help me pretty much. I really need to reach Andy to get inside the house! I finally decide to put my German sim card in to call him for estimated 4€ a Minute...

He tells me he’d be at his brothers house and he’d be at the house in about half an hour. So I walk back to the pub and had several conversations with the two bar girls and the pub owner. Only two hours later Andy finally arrives with his brother.

Inviting another friend over we four guys then go down to Andy’s swimming pool and play funny ball games :D .

After about two hours we spend in the chlorine water we go upstairs. I set up the couch with my dust mite protector and start watching a movie with Andy. It doesn’t last long till this first day in Australia ends and till I’m encountering sweet dreams with sweet hums of mosquitoes pampering my ear – almost like in the first nights in Holmwood St :) .

My feet touch Australian Ground! YEAH!

I head right to the customs. No complaints at all! Great :) . They neither requests my length of stay nor why I have a one qay ticket only. My suitcase is one of the first to arrive at the baggage carousel. I grab it and go to the quarantine – the part I am most afraid of. If they find you suspicious they simply make you unpack your whole baggage! They get all out and you have to get all back in. I think it would be quite hard for me managing to repack everything again since my dad had done a great job when I left.

They last security guy whom I face simply asks me if the guitar is everything I have with me that contains organic material. He also asks me for pears, apples and banana since Germans like bringing them along he says. I was send right to the exit when I said that my guitar was the only thing. THANK YOU!

I’m almost there: The finish line is in sight. That is a line arriving people cross to then head out of the airport. But before I leave the airport I have to meet Olaf – a German guy who was asked by Mr. Schmidt to make a little video about my arrival. Hopefully it’s not being used commercially or something since I do not really like supporting Southern World Ltd. (Berlin) any longer.

The guy films the whole ride to Erskineville (close to Newtown) and pays the taxi. I’ll be staying for the next couple of days with my muso friend Andy Golledge until I find a permanent house. Feels good to be back here!

I get my guitar out of the case and we play some songs together. We both really enjoy it! It definitely feels good being back here!

The plane ascends gently into the soft layers of clouds. They cannot really be seen. It is dark outside. The only stars I see are the artificial ones on the ceiling inside our plane. Dinner is served soon. I will have to get used being among the first persons in the plane who are being served food since I ordered vegetarian meals. Not bad for me but I feel a bit uncomfortable having my food 20 minutes before everyone else.

The entertainment on the plane is great as usual. The movie “Public Enemies” is just about to end. What a great actor this Caribbean Sea – Guy is (I forgot the name… sorry ^^) . The movie is really worth watching! I feel totally drawn to the main actor who plays a gangster in the 1930s. He is smart, has some dark humour, but is very generous and human on the other hand as well. He is also looking for the big love of his life. Which he founds. I don’t want to tell you more about the story at this point. It’s just a really great movie worth watching!

Our plane lands in Dubai. We are taken on a tour with a shuttle bus around the whole airport. That took about 20 minutes. Dubai people must be really proud of their city! (Would have taken about 5 Minutes to get us straight to where we get off) . Security Check and then straight to the toilet. Oh what nice bum showers they have there ;) . Also free water is provided to remove my signs of flight dehydration.

I am then moving to my gate to leave Dubai to Sydney over Bangkok. I’m being seated right next to an Aussi guy. He didn’t talk much. All I get to know about him is that he is a car dealer. I receive my meal first. So not fair ^^.

Bangkok security checks my Baggage! They take my deathly Vaseline out of my hand bag! My lips start cramping up immediately. One level up there’s another security check! Another check for liquids. So unnecessary! They don’t even check my guitar case. I could have a whole aquarium full of explosive liquids in there and they wouldn’t know…

Before boarding I make friends with a guy from Great Britain. He’s a rower and as old as me. Nice guy. It is also heading towards Sydney. I should meet him for a drink.

Same car dealer is seated next to me. Again my food comes first. As usual my guitar is stowed in an under compartment. Thanks Emirates ;) .

Having chosen the window seat is not that good when you really need to go to the toilet while both of your neighbours are sleeping. So I train my bladder a bit and just wait till we land (which is not so easy on an 8 hours flight…) . I choose to sleep for a while to stop thinking about my inner pressure.

We are very close to Sydney when I awake. It feels good being so close to your destination of your dreams. After an hour or so we are right above it! Then the plane smoothly touches the ground and I get off.

I am packing my bags. It’s not much time left to get everything organized. I was just seeing Julia to say good bye. Felt different this time. Human warmth was filling the room right to the top :) .

There are so many things I shall not forget to take with me. Until 4am I am synchronizing the data on my external disks with my desktop computer. After that I go to bed to get about 2 hours of sleep.

I wake up in the morning. My dad is quicker than the alarm clock but I’m still lying there and waiting for the music coming out of my mobile. It’s just easier for me to get up that way.

Typical holyday preparation stress sets in when I get out of the shower and do final adjustment to the huge suitcase I take with me. I’m allowed to take 30kg with me – what is already very generous from the airline! But I still exceed the limit. Although it’s summer time and clothes are lighter in general. Before packing I was that optimistic to take my cajon and my busking amp (6kg each) with me to Australia. Now I realize that I have to unpack the amp and leave the cajon at home.

Mum, dad and I are leaving the house in a real hurry. It’s already 8.10am and the train leaves at 8.20am. Dad manages to be at the station on time. He doesn’t find a parking spot straight away so mum and me already leave the car to get some tickets. My dad has to take a little sprint since the train is about to arrive in a few seconds. We all make it right in time. I’m impressed how sportive my dad still is with his now 60 years of age :P .

We reach Berlin Hauptbahnhof at about 8.40am . Kaichen is arriving very soon after us. Sarah, Romy and Eva are joining us as well. It is so lovely having everyone around again! Finally arriving on the top floor and having the train arriving I can’t hold back my tears. I really don’t like good byes. But who does?

So I get on the train, wave until my family and friends are moving out of sight and then I move further to get seated in the train. I find a good spot and stay there for the next 5 hours until I reach Dortmund. Arriving there I am seeing my old love Lisa. We are both having a salad at subways (and some cookies :P ) and we are talking about but lays behind us and which situations we are faced with soon. Lisa, you impressed quite a lot with your story about what might is about to happen :) .

We said goodbye at the same spot where I left her in tears on September 2nd 2008.

Arriving at Frankfurt Airport Jule was the last friend I should say good bye to on that day. I check my baggage in (33kb and still no complaints – THANK YOU Emirates!) .

I get a Mc-O-Fish-Filet or whatever it is called to stop myself of being hungry for a little while. I bring her to the station in hope to see her again so very soon. Maybe Australia – who knows :) ?

I wave good bye a last time. The I go up stairs and pass the customs. I take a seat to download some emails and to activate my phones mailbox again. Cause this time I am prepared to leave a little notice on my mailbox ;) .

While I am taking out my boarding passes I recognize the time and start getting in a hurry again. Time has passed quicker than I felt it would. I end up passing the security checks and then finding myself sitting, waiting and calling my mailbox for about two long hours since our flight is 2 hours late due to a medical emergency. That’s alright… I mean I don’t really mind waiting a bit. The only thing that bothers me is, that I would really like to send some messages to be beloved ones as soon as I reach my planes seats.

After getting on board with my heavy guitar, my little back pack and an extra bag I take a seat. My guitar is getting nicely put into a under compartment. Thank you again – Emirates :) . I really appreciate the great service this air line offers! I mean I wouldn’t want my guitar to be put to the other luggage, which is being kept cold in the air and being roughly handled when loaded out.

Next to me two very nice guy around 40 years of age are seated. They both are from Elsterwerda in Brandenburg. Feels good to have people like them around! One of them is an Ice Cream producer.

I start typing my messages and send them to all my loved ones. For those who don’t get a message: Time and Credit were limited. So sorry for that :) .

Captain says: “Crew get ready for takeoff” . That’s sign for me as well. Sign to finally start of to a vibrant new future full of love and passion while I am swimming in my own dream. This will be great!

Goodbye everyone! See you in OZ :)
